Kitchen Cabinet Redo

Our kitchen cabinets have seen better days. The whitewash finish is peeling off and they are splitting in a couple of places. I love a bright clean kitchen. So, a couple of weeks ago I had the bright idea to paint the cabinets white. I had no idea that Stew would jump right on the bandwagon and plow full steam ahead. But I am loving the fact that he did. I figure at this pace, he will be done before Easter. YAY!

Here are a couple of shots of the painted cabinets. We still need to get new hardware. We are thinking about brushed nickel to go with our stainless steel applicances.

I plan on ripping down the wallpaper and painting the walls either yellow or a goldish color. My family room is painted rosemary sprig from Benjamin Moore and it is open to the kitchen. My dining room is yellow on top and gold on bottom separated by a white chair rail but it is closed off by a door. My entry way is Monroe Bisque on the bottom and Monterey White on top and that is also open to the kitchen area. I am torn about what color to paint. What do you think?

the cabinets look great! i'm wanting to paint mine white too - they are in great shape, but i hate the light wood.

Stew have any tips or steps i should follow?

I think yellow would be pretty. Remember, it's just paint...if you don't like it, you can start over. Get yourself some smaller sample sizes. I think either Home Depot or Lowes has the small samples now.

I'm still working on my bathroom cabinets, they just need a little dark glaze. Here's a kewl site I found for updating my hardware:

Haven't ordered yet, but soon.

WOW Mo! The fresh coat of paint has them looking totally new! No need to replace, but I agree the brushed nickel would be quite nice...I did the same thing with our bathroom cabinets when we had a total remodel, keeping only the cabinets from the old bathroom. New hardware sure topped it off nicely!

The fresh white paint on the cabinets looks fantastic Mo! they look great...WTG Stew!

Color for the walls...you could go with a fresh buttery yellow with some touches of green in your accents. That would pull the two rooms together. Or you could pull out your color wheel and find the two colors that most closely match your dining room and family room, then look at the opposite color on the color wheel. It should be something in a red tone. Or you could pick a color next to your two colors, green goes to yellow goes into yellow, or yellow goes into green goes into blue tones.
Its fun to play with. Get some samples and dont be afraid to ask the paint store for advice too.
